Location

It is situated on the left bank of the river Zakam, 29 kilometres south of the district centre, at an altitude of 850 to 900 metres above sea level.

The village was stripped of its Armenian population in the late 18th century.

In the second half of the 19th century, it belonged to a certain Turkish landowner named Zulghadarov.

Monuments

As attested by a visitor of the late 19th century, “The monastery of St. Mkrtich is located on the right bank of the river Zakam, at the foot of Mount Valijan, opposite Aghdere.”
