Geographical Environment
1930 y․

The present-day Barda district (Partav) covering the area of 957 sq. km was established in 1930. It is situated in the plain between the lower courses of the Trtu and Khachen rivers, and reaches the right riverside of the Kura. It is bordering with the Yevlakh, Tartar, Aghdam, Aghjabedi, Aghdash and Zardob districts of Azerbaijan.

Historical Introduction
1976 y․

In 1976 the district comprised one town (administrative center) and 107 villages. Only one Armenian village -Hasanghaya survived up to the establishment of the Soviet power in the present day area of this district.

19 c․

During the medieval period the district was included into the Uti-Arandznak province of Armenia, named usually after the major and the only city in the province - Partav. Up to the 19th century the province was most often called Barta-basan (the Partav province).

Description

Regardless of the fact that the city played a significant role in the history of Hayots Arevelits Koghmants (Eastern Armenia), traces of Armenian culture are rather scarce both in the town and the settlements of the district.
