Historical Introduction

Press of Bagrat Ter-Sahakiants (1901 to 1917). B. Ter-Sahakiants, who taught arithmetic at the diocesan school of Shushi, started the activity of his printing-house parallel with that of Mahtesy Yegh. Hakobiants. His press existed until 1917 publishing 20 books and the “Paylak” newspaper (1915).

According to other sources, the press opened in the 1880s (Լևոնյան Գ., Հայ գիրքը և տպագրության արվեստը, Երևան, 1946, էջ 233) or after 1905 (Բալայան Վ., Արցախի պատմությունը հնադարից մինչև մեր օրերը, Երևան, 2011, էջ 211). The first 3 issues of the newspaper were printed in B. Ter-Sahakiants Press, after which its publication continued in that of M. Babajanian (Ավագյան Ս., Նյութեր Ղարաբաղի նախասովետական շրջանի մամուլի պատմությունից, Երևան, 1969, էջ 137-139).
